JOHN SHIRLEY

John Marion Shirley was born in Albany, GA on January 12, 1933. He passed away in the early morning of April 6, 2025. A Memorial service will be held 3:00 PM Thursday May 8, 2025 at Duluth First United Methodist Church, with Dr. C. Kay Fuino officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm till 3:00 pm at the church.

John grew up in Albany and graduated high school in 1951. He served in the Navy in the 1950's on the USS Taconic. He moved to Atlanta and went to Georgia Tech graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Textiles, and was an avid Georgia Tech football fan and had season tickets his entire life.

John married Margaret Ellen Ellis on September 1, 1957, and they were married for 44 years.

John had two careers. He worked at Graybar Electric Company as an office manager, and later in life at Home Depot where he was a model for Home Depot with his good looks and pretty white hair.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph William Shirley and Lizzie Mae Shirley, his wife, Margaret Ellis Shirley, his brother, Carlton Shirley, and his sister-in-law, Sue Shirley.

He is survived by his daughter, Jan Jones (Linton); brother, Donald Shirley (Janet), many nephews, nieces and cousins.
